Artichokes

Sunday night’s super involved artichokes on the grill. First, I trimmed the suckers and then steamed them for about 10 minutes. I chopped them in half and removed the prickly/ hairy insides. I brushed the artichokes with olive oil and sprinkled salt and pepper. We grilled them for about 15 minutes, and then again for another 10 or 15 minutes as we discovered that this was not enough time. Next time I make artichokes on the grill I’ll probably steam them for 20 minutes before grilling.

It’s kind of amazing to me that somebody got past the prickly parts of the artichoke to the delicious heart and discovered that this was edible.  In any case, for Paul and I the artichokes were a lovely mess dipped in mayonnaise… mmmm….
